About the Position:

Working with the Head of Engagement, the SPNQ Community Activator is designed to activate, connect and support the startup community of Townsville and its surrounding regions. Primary tasks will include engaging NQ’s entrepreneurs and ensuring they are aware of SPNQ’s service offering, as well as coordination and delivery of Smart Precinct NQ events and programs.

This is an ideal role for anyone who considers themselves a natural networker as the Community Activator is often the first point of contact within the organisation. The ability to make strong connections quickly and to assist our entrepreneurs to find the best person or resource to meet their needs is critical to the role.

The coordination and management of programs and events for early-stage startups is also core to the position. As most of these events and programs are held outside of standard working hours, there may be a requirement to work up to 3 evenings a week. To support this, flexible working conditions are provided.

The Community Activator will also be responsible for building strong relationships with Smart Precinct NQ’s Community groups (ie. DevNQ, NQ

Inventors, Smart Collective) and to facilitate the needs of these groups to assist them in achieving their objectives.

Experience in marketing is a bonus, as the ability to create engaging content which has the ability to connect with Smart Precinct NQ’s diverse range of stakeholders is an important part of our engagement strategy.

Please note: As Smart Precinct NQ has a small multi-disciplinary team it is necessary for all members of the organisation to be prepared to take on tasks outside of their standard job description from time to time.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Responsibilities

  • Create awareness of and interest in SPNQ’s advisory, industry and consulting services.

  • Developing approaches for interactive in-person and digital engagement;

  • Work with the Head of Engagement to design, coordinate and deliver organization-wide events, including Ecosystem Meetups;

  • Manage external vendors who are looking to run events through Smart Precinct NQ.

  • Monitor engagement activities to maximize sustained impact;

  • Create opportunities for regional engagement within the NQ region.

Communications Responsibilities

  • Management of the website, social channels and other digital assets;

  • Development of all branded collateral including flyers, marketing products and print material to ensure brand consistency.

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working directly with a diverse range of stakeholders, cultivating and nurturing organizational relationships;

  • Experience with program management demonstrating the highest levels of professionalism;

  • Experience leading the conceptualization and implementation of strategic collaborations and events;

  • Excellent problem-solving skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; and attention to detail;

  • Digital marketing skills are a bonus.
